Experimenting with whites

Experimenting with whites

During the lesson on 12/10/15 we experimented with the three types of white makeup, these are:
  • Illamasqua skin base
  • Kryolan white aqua colour
  • Kryolan super colour
  • Illamasqua satin primer
  • Illamasqua matte primer
Illimasqua skin base:

Before application of this we cleansed, toned and moisturised the skin and applied a mat primer to ready the skin, the application of the skin base was easy and it appeared thin. It seems to be a better product to mix in with another the of foundation to create a thicker finish. Using a blusher brush concluded to be the brush with worst application, it left streaky marks on the face and thinned the founder even more. Using a thicker brush was better, it helped the product to sit better in the face and created less strokes.

This type of thin coverage seemed like water colour paint, although no water was needed, the consistency was thin and need to be built upon.

Super colour:

This was much thicker, a bit like poster paint or acrylic. The easiest application appeared to be with the foundation brush to apply and the goats hair brush to blend. This was still a light coloured white and would need building upon, this created a smooth finish.

I found the best way to get a full coverage with a smooth finish is to mis the super colour and the illamasqua skin base. This ensured easier application, and a better finish, the look was smooth and thick.

Aqua colour:

This colour needed to be mixed with water to enable it to spread on the skin, I used a foundation brush to apply the colour. This was a much thicker texture but wasn't smooth, with every brush it created a skreeky finish, it was difficult to mix on my hand and then apply t the face, not all the mixture would blend and clumps of the colour would stay unmixed. I think using a sponge would make for an easier application and a smoother finish.

The super colour white was the best for smooth application and strong pigment. I would consider using this as a face whitening for my final make-up design.

Here we can see the three base's, the most prominent was the top left, aqua colour but up close was very streaky and patchy, the least effective was at the bottom, the illamasqua skin base, this would work better mixed with another foundation, the top right was the best for application; it was smooth and didn't show any brush strokes, although he colour wasn't as strong, it needed to be but up on.

Health and safety:

Before I started the application of makeup,I ensured all my brushes were clean and there was no cross contamination in the products. Throughout the application I ensured I didn't cross contaminate the brushes or products by 'double dipping.' I assessed the clients skin and came to the conclusion she had normal skin with no contraindications.
